I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2016 with a bachelor of science degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I’m happily married and have one beautiful baby girl.
What do you do at the Mission? I am the media coordinator and social media manager. I’m in charge of our online presence, and everything from keeping our website up to date to event promotions.
How did you end up at the Mission? I started working at one of the Mission’s thrift stores part-time in college. I ended up doing an internship with the recovery side of the Mission in my last semester; after I graduated, I came on as a full-time staff member.
What is one thing about you that surprises people? I’m actually very shy! I’m a natural introvert who has forced myself to be extroverted.
What hobbies do you have? I love traveling, working out, any type of card/board game, and spending time with family.
What is your favorite movie or television show? I love the Lord of the Rings movies, and Forensic Files and The Office are my favorite TV shows.
What is the best criticism you have ever received? My entire life I’ve been called terribly stubborn and defiant.
What do you consider your biggest success? I think my biggest success so far has been graduating from college. I worked one full-time job, two part-time jobs, and always took a full class load. It definitely helped me learn self-discipline and balance.
What is the most influential book you’ve read besides the Bible? The devotional book Loved Baby (Sarah Philpott) is one of the most soul-healing books I have ever read. It really helped walk me through my grief after losing my first child to late-term stillbirth. It’s written with so much love and validation. Great testimonies and advice from other women who have gone through similar loss, while at the same time always turning it back to Christ.
Who has most impacted you on your spiritual walk? My parents. Not only were they each amazing examples of what a Christ-follower looks like in their own accord, but together they also showed me what a godly marriage looks like. I am so grateful I got to grow up having them there to mentor me and be my role models.
How did you come to know Christ? I grew up in a Christ-loving family. Watching people who rely solely on Jesus, seeing them not only talk the talk but live out their faith daily, definitely brought me into a relationship with Him early on in life. Going from believing because that’s what my family did to making my relationship personal really changed who I am today.
Which Biblical character do you identify with the most? I feel like I most identify with Paul. I’ve seen my fair share of heartache and pain, but like Paul, I look to God to help sustain me, and I find my hope for tomorrow within Him. It has not been easy, but defiant joy is now a major defining characteristic of mine (though that joy comes from the Lord and is certainly not my own!).
What is your favorite memory at the Mission? An ongoing memory, I always adore our annual Street Treats event! It’s so much fun to see everyone dressed up, and I love watching different members and organizations from our community come together in order to serve and love on those in need. The smiles of the children in attendance are unparalleled!
What do you like most about being part of the Mission team? I love the sense of community we have. It really does feel like we’re a big family!
Why the Gospel Mission? I love people. I believe that the Mission is an essential part of this community- I think the services they provide, the love that they show, and the difference they’re making are invaluable. I’m so grateful I get to be a part of this!
