Marie Krueger

My name is Marie, and I am the Director of Development here at the Mission. I love working here and am passionate about what I do and being of service to other people. I am a single mother to two grown sons and try to spend time with them whenever possible.

What do you do at the Mission?

I develop, schedule, and maintain business/corporate partnerships for the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission. I write grant proposals for funding to support and expand our programs.  I am also an assistant “house mom” of the program women.

Tell us about yourself.

Working at the Mission has been a huge blessing in my life.  By helping other people, I find purpose and delight in my own life.  I believe it’s important to find joy in the small things that come our way.

How did you end up at the Mission?

I like to say that I just landed here.  The truth is God picked me up and placed me exactly where I needed to be at the time.

What is one thing about you that surprises people?

I’m fairly soft-spoken and have a sense of humor that takes people by surprise when they get to know me.

What hobbies do you have?

Gardening and reading.

What is your favorite movie or television show?

I am not one to watch TV much, but when I do I enjoy news, old movies or a good documentary.

What is the best criticism you have ever received?

That my self-worth and value is not dependent upon my performance.

What do you consider your biggest success?

Discovering and learning to become a Godly woman of integrity.

What is the most influential book you’ve read besides the Bible?

I am an avid reader – so I’m afraid I couldn’t just pick one book.  Books have greatly influenced and enhanced my life since I was a small child.

Who has most impacted you on your spiritual walk?

It really has been a collective effort with every single staff member here at the Mission.

How did you come to know Christ?

I was a miserable mess and didn’t know where to turn anymore. God brought me to the Mission and through the gentle care and education I received,  I learned how to develop a relationship with Him and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Which Biblical character do you identify with the most?

Priscilla – She was a married woman who was also independent and devout in her love for Christ, but was also a mover and shaker in her own right.

What is your favorite memory at the Mission?

Being a part of watching the transformation of people’s lives. It is fantastic to see people heal and recover, create new relationships in their life and re-establish broken ones.

What do you like most about being part of the Mission team?

I get to give back what was so freely given to me.  I have the opportunity to share the same knowledge, love, grace and mercy with those that come from the same place I did.

Why the Gospel Mission?

This place is the “city on the hill” shining God’s light and love to our community.
