Serigo Marin

What do you do at the Mission?
I am the Dispatch Coordinator. My position involves taking calls for donations and then coordinating different trucks to pick up those donations. As a dispatcher, I also deal with picking up food, household items, and numerous other items. plus there are many other duties I have to do as well.

Tell us about yourself.
I come from a small town and with the Lord’s guidance have made my way to Reno. Born and raised in Elko, Nevada this is the first time in my life where I have given up my views of the world and have let God guide me instead.

How did you end up at the Mission?
I ended up at the Mission by prayer. I remember being deep in my addiction and finally giving up on life and asking God for help.

What is one thing about you that surprises people?
I would say that I truly care about others. I know my family here at the Mission knows this, but my family and friends from back home are finally getting to see this side of me as well.

What hobbies do you have?
I enjoy swimming and anything else you can do in the water. I love all sports and love going to live games, as well as watching them on television.

What is your favorite movie or television show?
I enjoyed all three Lord of the Rings movies and The Hobbit trilogy as well.

What is the best criticism you have ever received?
I worry about things that aren’t important and need to learn to just give all to God.

What do you consider your biggest success?
Without a doubt, it would have to be my sobriety because with that came my relationship with God.

What is the most influential book you’ve read besides the Bible?
It was a book my cousin gave to me that is called a Beautiful Boy. It’s a book that really opened my eyes and I finally realized what my addiction was doing to others.

Who has most impacted you on your spiritual walk?
Besides the staff here at the Mission, I would have to say, my children.

How did you come to know Christ?
Growing up Catholic I knew of Christ, but I truly came to Christ and developed a relationship with Him when I arrived here at the Mission.

Which biblical character do you identify with the most?
I would say Moses because just like him I sometimes think there is no way God can use someone like me.

What is your favorite memory at the Mission?
My favorite memory and event we do is Random Acts of Kindness. To see the smile on people’s faces when you show up at their home is so awesome.

What do you like most about being part of the Mission team?
Being able to be a part of something that helps the community as well as making it better in so many ways.

Why the Gospel Mission?
If it was up to me I would have never chosen the Mission but God had a different plan for me. I am so blessed now that I’m a part of such a great organization and family.
