Tammie Holmes

What do you do at the Mission?
I manage our Thrift Depot stores.

Tell us about yourself.
I have an awesome life. I have been clean for 13 years. I have a wonderful family and friends.

How did you end up at the Mission?
I used to be a meth addict. I woke up on a cold October morning in a house with no power. Everything I owned was in garbage bags. I called a good friend who looked in the phone book for some Christian help for me.

What is one thing about you that surprises people?
I’m shy around large crowds.

What hobbies do you have?
I like to cook and watch movies.

What is your favorite movie or television show?
I really enjoy watching Food Network.

What is the best criticism you have ever received?
Think before you speak.

What do you consider your biggest success?
Accepting the Lord and overcoming my addiction.

What is the most influential book you’ve read besides the Bible?
Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life.

Who has most impacted you on your spiritual walk?
Tammy Treadwell, my friend and co-worker. She encourages me and keeps me steady.

How did you come to know Christ?
By watching how happy my Christian friends were and realizing I could have that, too. Also, by going to church with my good friend Steve Higgins.

Which biblical character do you identify with the most?
James, because he talks about being quick to listen and slow to speak and slow to anger. He also talks about taming the tongue. These were important and challenging things to learn after living the way I did.

What is your favorite memory at the Mission?
I’ve worked for the Mission for over 11 years and have so many great memories. Watching our clients graduate our C.A.R.E Program is at the top of the list.

What do you like most about being part of the Mission team?
Being able to talk about God. We just stop what we’re doing and pray. It’s awesome.

Why the Gospel Mission?
It’s a wonderful family. I find love, hope and understanding here every day.
